Drayton Manor Incident Statements

Statement on behalf of Jameah Girls Academy

11th November 2019

The conclusion of the inquest into Evha’s tragic death has given us some insight into the circumstances by which she so sadly lost her life. Our hearts go out to Evha’s family, and we hope that this inquest has given them some closure, as well as our school children and staff. As a school we will continue to honour Evha’s memory and continue to support our school community with the warmth and care they deserve.

Statement from Headteacher

04th November 2019

Following on from the tragic events in May 2017 when one of our dear pupils, Evha Jannath, sadly lost her life while on a school trip at Dayton Manor Park, we would like to express our profound sympathy to Evha’s family. The thoughts and prayers of our whole school community remain with them at this difficult time.

As the inquest into Evha’s death has now begun, we continue to support the relevant authorities fully with their inquiries. However, due to the nature of these proceedings, we are unable to provide further details at this time.

We are working closely with our staff, pupils and families during this time to provide them with the support they need. We are also mindful of their need for privacy, and ask that this privacy is respected by all.

Statement on behalf of Jameah Girls Academy

16th May 2017

It is overwhelming to see so many people here today, praying for Evha and showing support for her family.  As a school, we have been touched by the enormity of support we have received from the community of Leicester, as well as nationally and globally.

Pupils and staff at Jameah Girls would like to say thank you for all the kind words and messages of support that we have received from members of the public. We would also like to thank fellow schools in Leicester and Leicester City Council for providing practical help, including counselling for our pupils and staff.

Evha’s friends were given time off school this morning to visit Evha’s family and say goodbye to Evha.  In memory of Evha, we have closed the school this afternoon. Tomorrow, we will resume class but with a heavy heart knowing that we do so without Evha.

In the coming days, Evha’s friends will help the school to establish a fitting tribute to her memory.  In the meantime, Evha’s mum has asked me this morning to keep Evha’s name on the school register.  I’m happy to do so, as Evha will always be in our hearts and part of our school.

Statement from Headteacher

10th May 2017

Yesterday one of our children, Evha Jannath passed away in tragic circumstances. She was a lovely, sweet-natured girl and well loved by all at our school. As a school and a community, we are trying to make sense of this terrible tragedy.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Evha's family at this most difficult time. We will be providing specialist support for our pupils and staff and we ask to be given the time and space to come to terms with our huge loss.

Public Statement

9th May 2017

It is with the deepest sadness that we issue the following statement:

Parents and carers will be aware that pupils and staff of Jameah  Academy in Leicester went on a school trip to Drayton Manor Park on Tuesday 9th May 2017.

Whilst at the theme park, a tragic incident took place where one of our Year 6 pupils was airlifted to hospital. Sadly, she later passed away.

As a school community, we are deeply shocked and our thoughts are with our pupil's family and friends. The school will ensure specially trained staff are in school to provide our pupils and staff support at this difficult time. We would request that the family and the school community are given time to grieve.

Please be assured that the safety and wellbeing of our pupils is our foremost priority. We are liaising with the relevant authorities and therefore we are unable to provide any further information at this time.
